National Level Quiz on “Mahatma Gandhi: Life & Works”

As a part of 150 years of celebrating the Mahatma, a National Level Quiz on “Mahatma Gandhi: Life & Works” was organised by National Council of Science Museums (NCSM) at Science City, Kolkata on January 30, 2019. Semi-final round of the quiz was held at Birla Industrial and Technological Museum (BITM), Kolkata on January 29, 2019. Shri Jawhar Sircar, Former Secretary, Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India inaugurated the event in presence of Shri Pratik Ghosh, Director and Secretary, Gandhi Smarak Sangrahalay, Barrackpore and other dignitaries.

22 teams selected from Centre level competition participated in the semi-final rounds at BITM, Kolkata. From among the 22 teams, five teams were selected to compete in the final rounds at Science City on January 30. Sovan Sourav Mohanty and Amritanshu Rath from D. A. V. Public School, Chandrasekharpur, Bhubaneswar, Odisha, were declared as the winner of the National Level Quiz. Madhusudan Sanjeev Hasbe and Neel Desouza from Holy Family High School, Bardez, Goa were the first runner up, M. J. Sanjana and D. G. Indhu Varsha from Sri Jayendra Saraswathi Swamigal Golden Jubilee Matriculation H. S. School from Tirunelveli the second runner up.

Prof. Sibaji Raha, Former Director, Bose Institute, Kolkata and Dr. Suparna Guptoo, Dept. of History, University of Calcutta gave the prizes in presence of Shri A. D. Choudhury, Director General, National Council of Science Museums, Shri Subhabrata Chaudhuri, Director, Science City, Kolkata and Shri V.S. Ramachandran, Director, BITM, Kolkata. Winner team was given a prize of Rs. 50,000/-, first runner up team Rs. 30,000/- and second runner up team Rs. 20,000/-.

Prior to this, Centre level quiz competitions were held at the 22 Science Centres under NCSM in which 381 teams (two students in each team) participated. The competition started on October 2, 2018, on the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and ended on January 30, 2019, on the occasion of the death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
