An attempt to take science among tribes

13 May,2014

178 tribe people from three tribal colonies Ambumala, Vettilakkolli and Palakkayam visited Regional Science Centre & Planetarium Calicut on 13th May 2014. The visit was planned and organised by RSC & Planetarium, Calicut in association with Palakkayam Adivasi  Vana  Samrakshana  Samithi. After visiting the Calicut beach, around 11.30 AM they came to visit the Planetarium. Shri. M. K. Raghavan, Hon’ble MP, Kozhikode inaugurated the program at Planetarium and interacted with them. Tribal Moopans were also present in the inaugural function.

Initially the group was exposed to 3D film show, Planetarium show and exhibition halls. The first experience with 3D left them wonderstruck. Some were awed while some were scared. Some grand old ladies wouldn’t wear the spectacles for fear it would bring back the snake that was threatening to bite them a few minutes ago.

Magician Pradeep Hudino performed a magic show for the group. Most of the tribals are coming out from the forest first time & they enjoyed the city sightseeing, visit to beach and Planetarium very much. The tribal family left the Planetarium at 3.30 pm with a feeling of wonderful experience in their life.
